Good Heart, Good Mind

The Practice of the Ten Perfections

Ṭhānissaro Bhikkhu

Published

A series of talks given at two retreats—one in France, the other in Brazil—on the topic of the ten perfections (pāramī): giving, virtue, renunciation, discernment, persistence, endurance, truth, determination, goodwill, and equanimity. These perfections provide an excellent framework for understanding how to give meaningful and satisfying purpose to everyday lay life in a way that’s conducive both to genuine goodness and to genuine happiness. As they develop, they foster qualities both of a good mind—wise in understanding cause and effect—and a good heart: purposeful, well-intentioned, and strong.

    • The EPUB format is suitable for most e-readers, except Kobos and Kindles. This includes most e-reader applications on mobile phones and tablets (e.g. Apple's iBooks, various apps for Android), and on desktops (e.g. Calibre).
    • Kindle owners will generally want the AZW3 format. Unfortunately, AZW3s cannot be sent with Amazon's Send to Kindle service and need to be sideloaded via USB. Some have tried using Send to Kindle to send EPUBs, but with mixed success.
    • Kobo owners will want kobo's “KEPUB” format, which is a version of the EPUB format optimized for Kobo e-readers.
